Ordesa National Park - Spanish Pyrenees

Images from a short visit at the Ordesa National Park in the Spanish Pyrenees. We were quite surprised as we entered the small tourist town of Torla. It seemed somebody's strong beliefs had moved mountains from another part of the world. The enormous redish cliffs were just stunning. Somehow they seemed out of place. Was this really Europe? The cloud ceiling hovering up high hid the mountain tops and made the wall all the more gigantic and mysterious.
The next day (early in July) we prepared for a day hike in the Ordesa Canyon, but quickly gave up due to balmy temperatures steadily rising to almost 40 degrees Celsius. We had received warnings about scarce water supply higher up and that at least 4-5 liters should be carried. The locals told us that the prime hiking season stretches from mid-September to late October. So we headed for the beaches of the Biscaya. Alas, there it was cool and windy and hardly anybody felt like getting wet and fighting with the surf.
