Karlsson Barock - Repetition at "Errol´s", Göteborg, March 2012 with works by Vivaldi, Albinoni, Corelli and Brescianello.

Karlsson Barock is a (largely amateur) Gothenburg group interested mostly in Italian Baroque music. They are keen on experimenting with different non-sacral localities and alternative ways to perform. Through contacts between Karlsson-member Elsbeth Bergh and art teacher Lena Haraldsson (Schillerska Secondary School) the idea of creating an image-show to be shown during a musical performance came to fruition.
To begin with, various Karlsson members visited the school during art classes. They brought instruments and played them, and all the while students sketched and drew. This was to be material for the intended image show. Even abstract pictures - inspired by music - were a part of the concept.

Then much work for teacher, students and Karlsson members followed: scanning and processing the drawings, assembling them into a film with smooth transitions. Projection techniques had to be explored, experimenting with different types of fabric to project onto. Adaptation to the spatial coditions of the locale was paramount, with the correct positioning of  the projection providing good visual "access" to the public without distracting or disturbing the performers.
All went well and the public's reaction was very positive. And from an educational perspective: A high-key cooperative project with the "outside world" greatly enhanced the quality and meaning of learning! And as a side-effect, it seems to have introduced a new musical horizon for (some of) the mp3-generation youngsters.
My own role was to support my wife by taking pictures of the event. But I ended up doing quite a bit of film work with my stills camera, something I hadn't really tried under such conditions and wasn't really prepared for. The results bear this out. There are a lot of flaws. An interesting experience nonetheless.

Important: To go back to the blog after full screen viewing just end the full screen option: Press "Esc" button on the keyboard or click on the "Exit full screen" symbol in the film's toolbar.
