Images from Änggårdsbergen, Gothenburg

In the middle of greater Gothenburg lies the Nature Conservation area of Änggårdsbergen. Surrounded on all sides by busy roads, housing and industry, these few square kilometers of nature have endured as a major recreational area. While some parts are rather civilized with upkept trails and signposts, others are a virtual wilderness with challenging terrain. The northern end borders on the Botanical Gardens whose remakable arboretum spreads a bit into Änggårdsbergen. In turn, the "uncivilized" nature stretches long tongues into the Botanical Gardens.    Click on the images for an enlarged view!

My photographic interst centers around nature that is largely left on its own. Where trees spring up, grow, die, collapse and decompose undisturbed. Like many others living close to Änggårdsbergen, I feel privileged to have such quick and easy access to this comparatively large natural area. Through the years it has been a great place to train the body and refresh the mind! Hopefully even coming generations will be able to enjoy this peaceful island in bustling city life.
