Gothia Soccer World Youth Cup 2015

Images from the opening day of the largest soccer tournament for young people (club teams) from around the world. It takes place every year in Gothenburg, Sweden, in the middle of July.
Since this is our prime summer travel period, I don't get a chance every year to take pictures from this buzzling event that reverberates around the entire city. Almost every public school is in use to help accomodate this year's record 1800 teams, translating all in all to almost 40 000 visitors in town. The Ullevi Stadium with its capacity of nearly 60 000 is not large enough to seat general public plus all teams and officials at the same time. So some clubs are rotated in and out during the opening proceedings.
There are lots of interesting facts, figures and pictures on Gothia Cup's website. There you can e.g. find a welcoming letter from UEFA president Michel Platini, where he names some famous players who participated in Gothia tournaments as adolescents, among them Sweden's own superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic

It sounds incredible, but since the start in 1975 the tournament has hosted one million players. The lucky millionth got an award and a rousing ovation, a 13 year old girl from Oakland, California. This year it seems to go great for women's soccer in the US!
This show's music is not a Swedish song, but from next-door neighbour Denmark. Singer/songwriter Kim Larsen is a huge pop star in his country, but also highly popular in all of Scandinavia. It's not a song about football, rather about adolescence generally, growing up and the gradual passing (ticking) of time towards adulthood.

Technically this show is untypical for me, built on a rapid succession of images, with straight cut transitions and absence of zooms and pans.
