NordArt - An Exhibition In A Class By Itself

The NordArt exhibition came to life in 1999 and is held on the compound and in factory halls of the former Carlshütte foundry. This cast iron company had been in operation for about 170 years. The leftovers serve now as a phantastic environment for an annual art exhibition of truly awsome dimensions. The halls provide 22,000 sqm of exhibition area while the park compound offers 80,000 sqm. All this you find in Büdelsdorf, sister town of the larger city of Rendsburg on the Kiel Canal.
Here is a description of the event from NordArt's English website:

Since 1999 the NordArt has established itself as one of the largest exhibitions of contemporary art in Europe which takes place anually in the summer months. The NordArt is an overall work of art in its own right and is designed as such each year. More than 200 international artists, selected by a jury, present a comprehensive panorama of contemporary art. Each individual work not only speaks for itself but also creates new perspectives when seen juxtaposed against the unique backdrop offered by the Carlshütte and the adjacent historical sculpture park.

If you visit and can't stay for a whole day, allow at least 4-5 hours. We ourselves unfortunately could only be there for two hours. Sheer torture to tear yourself away from so much unseen artworks. The NordArt website is extensive and can give you a good overview of exhibitions past and present. The pictures below are from my own all too short visit in summer 2015.

Unfortunately there is a problem with VIMEO at present. The jump between qualities can at times be observed at any resolution selected! Hopefully the situation will improve soon.
